The company was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne to develop and sell Wozniak’s Apple I personal computer. In 1976, Steve Jobs co-founded Apple in his parents’ home on Crist Drive in Los Altos, California.
Apple Computer Company was founded in the house’s garage, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak called it “a bit of a myth”. Jobs and Wozniak did, however, move some operations to the garage when the bedroom became too crowded.
Jobs moved to the house with his foster parents as a seventh-grader and lived there through high school. Jobs and Wozniak assembled the first 50 Apple 1 computers. The pair sold them to Paul Terrell’s Byte Shop in Mountain View for $500 each. Nine months later, in 1977, Apple Computer Co. was formally established and moved its operations to nearby Cupertino.
