A striking building because the exterior consists entirely of a stack of nearly seventy separate Zaanse houses, executed in four colors. The building was designed by Wilfried van Winden.

The building replaces an earlier hotel in Zaandam of the same operator, opened in 1986 and demolished in 2010. The opening of the new hotel was on March 18, 2010. The hotel was built as part of the Inverdan project started in 2003. The aim of the project was to restructure the Zaanse city center.
