A music festival held August 15-18, 1969, on Max Yasgur’s dairy farm 65 km southwest of Woodstock. “3 Days of Peace & Music”, alternatively referred to as the Woodstock Rock Festival, it attracted an audience of more than 400,000. Thirty-two acts performed during the sometimes rainy weekend. The festival has become widely regarded as a pivotal moment in popular music history.

The first day began at 5:00 p.m. with Richie Havens and featured folk artists. The others musical artists who performed at Woodstock: Sweetwater, Bert Sommer, Tim Hardin, Ravi Shankar, Melanie, Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez, Quill, Country Joe McDonald, Santana, John Sebastian, Keef Hartley Band, The Incredible String Band, Canned Heat, Mountain, Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin and the Kozmic Blues Band, Sly & the Family Stone, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Joe Cocker and the Grease Band, Country Joe and the Fish, Ten Years After, The Band, Johnny Winter, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Sha Na Na and Jimi Hendrix.
