Daft Punk – The unmasked men meet for the first time in Paris

Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter met in 1987 while attending the Lycée Carnot secondary school. The two became friends and recorded demos. In 1992, they formed the group Darlin’. The group only recorded and released four tracks. a negative review in the UK music magazine Melody Maker referred to the sound as “a daft punky thrash.” Shortly after, the group Darlin’ disbanded.

In 1993, Bangalter and de Homem-Christo formed Daft Punk and experimented with drum machines and synthesizers. French electronic music duo achieved popularity in the late 1990s. They also had success in the years following, combining elements of house music with funk, techno, disco and pop.

Daft Punk released four studio albums, two live albums, one compilation album, one soundtrack album, three remix albums, two video albums, twenty-two singles and nineteen music videos. They announced their split in February 2021.
