Florence Griffith Joyner – The fastest woman breaks all records in Seoul

Also known as Flo-Jo, was an American track and field athlete. During the late 1980s she became a popular figure due to both her record-setting athleticism and eclectic personal style.

Griffith-Joiner was the big favorite in the sprint games held at the Jamsil Olympic Stadium at the 1988 Summer Olympics. In the 100-meter final, she ran a 10.54, beating her nearest rival to the world record, Evelyn Ashford, by 0.30 seconds. In the 200 meter semifinal, she set the world record of 21.56 seconds and then broke this record by 0.23 seconds in winning the final with a time of 21.33 seconds.

Griffith Joyner also won a gold medal in the 4×100-meter relay and a silver in the 4×400-meter relay.
